What is the first thing one thinks of
when thinking of Tucson? The weather, of course! With high
temperatures averaging around 81 degrees and very low humidity, its no
wonder that Tucson is a favorite resort destination of many! In fact,
the region receives more days of sunshine than any other city of the
United States. Tucson is situated in a valley in the
lush Sonoran Desert region of Southern Arizona with surrounding
mountains rising to heights over 9,000 feet. The distance from Phoenix
is about 110 miles and the Mexican border is only 60 miles away.
Arizona Weather
Sunny skies and low humidity prevail
over the entire state. Average winter temperatures run in the 50s F in
the low desert and the 20s to 30s F in the mountains and high
plateaus. Clear, sunny skies and low humidity help ease desert
dwellers during average summer temperatures in the 80s, 90s, and 100s,
while high-country residents enjoy averages in the 70s. Rain and
snowfall correspond roughly to elevation--the southwest corner
receives less than five inches annually, while the higher mountain and
the Mogollon Rim enjoy about 25 inches. Most precipitation falls
either in winter as gentle rains and snow or in summer as widely
scattered thunderstorms. Winter moisture comes mostly December through
March, revitalizing the desert; brilliant wildflowers emerge after a
good wet season. Summer afternoon thunderclouds billow in towering
formations from about mid-July to mid-September
